History
The formation of farmers’ weed control groups was a result of noxious weeds subsidies granted by central government, through the Ministry of Agriculture. Committees of farmers, with a MAF advisory officer and the County Noxious Weeds Inspector, were to administer the scheme. Weed control programmes were submitted to the committee for approval. The Group covered the Brunswick, Westmere and Raorikia Ridings. In 1976 a National Committee was set up with MAF, and Federated Farmers took over many of the committee functions. The records were inherited by the Waitotara County Council.
