History

At the conclusion of the annual meeting of the Westmere Branch of Federated Farmers on 24 April 1959, it was unanimously agreed to form a hydatid control area. A committee was formed, and the area was divided into six blocks. After four meetings in 1959, the Committee ceased to meet until its wind-up meeting in 1965. As from 25 August 1959, the function of hydatid control was taken over by the Combined Hydatid Control Committee, which comprised representatives of the Waitotara and Patea County Councils, Patea Borough and Waverley Town Councils. A Hydatid Officer was appointed, and hydatid control became a more formalised activity with a legal basis.
