The first meeting of the Owhango Services Memorial Park Committee was held on the 2nd of October 1945, to discuss the project, a memorial park in memory of the lives lost during the late war.

The committee later selected the land described as the Plantation Reserve as the site for the park.

The committee voted in 1980 to vest the park in the Owhango Community Council, a committee of the Taumarunui County Council.
