History
The Wanganui Rabbit Board was formed in 1926. By 1929 the Board was employing two staff. In 1956 the Whangaehu Rabbit Board amalgamated with the Wanganui Board and three classes of rates (on an acreage basis) were set according to the level of rabbit infestation. In 1960 the Board was extended to include Waimarino County. In 1968 due to changing legislation the Rabbit Board became a Pest Destruction Board. In March 1974 the Board amalgamated with the Patea Waitotara and Hunterville Pest Destruction Boards to form the Western Pest Destruction Board.
