History
In order to facilitate co-ordinated regional development and public works after WWII, local authorities were encouraged to form Regional Planning Councils. In Wanganui an attempt was made in 1945, but it appears that the Council’s size and diversity were so great that it proved unwieldy, and may not even have ever met. In 1946 a renewed effort was made, with representation from 12 local authorities (each of whom passed resolutions to that effect).
