History

The Counties Act was never in force in the area covered by the West Taupo County Council, so no council administration was ever actually set up. Administration of the area was split between local Road and Town Boards and government departments. The County gradually broke up, with pieces being amalgamated with neighbouring counties, until 1922 when the Waikato and King-country Counties Act was passed. This set up of a number of new counties with West Taupo being split between them.
