History
The Western Pest Destruction Board was formed in 1974 from the amalgamation of the Wanganui, Hunterville and Patea Waitotara Pest Destruction Boards. Staff numbers prior to amalgamation were at 44, but by 1977 this had declined to 28. The Board Income of $262,953 came 38% from rates, 35% from subsidies, 23% from grants and 4% from other sources. In December 1980 the government abolished the subsidies and replaced it with a grant only system. In 1988 the Board amalgamated with the Ruahine, Taihape and Manawatu Pest Destruction Boards to form the South West North Island Pest Destruction Board.
