Whanganui Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO)

WEECO was formed for the purposes of stimulaing economic development and promoting co-operation between different business-interest groups in the community. It aimed to establish a neutral and independent “opportunity market” to attract new business to Wanganui. The initial Steering Group met July-November 1993, and included representatives from the District Council, Iwi, the education sector, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Business Development Board. WEDCO’s first meeting was held 17 December 1993.
