Horowhenua United Council Committee Minute Books

This series contains the committee minute books of the Horowhenua United Council. In 1978, legislation was passed enabling the formation of regions with United Councils. The only responsibilities mandated by the legislation were coordination of civil defence and development of a regional plan, though other responsibilities could be delegated. United Councils did not have their own staff, they were instead provided by one of the local authorities within the region, in this case they were from the Horowhenua County Council based in Levin. The United Council had two main committes, which were Civil Defence and Regional Planning, but committees also existed for Libraries, Energy, Refuse, Natural Gas, Urban Transport and Agriculture/Horticulture. The minute books are arranged in meeting date order and the are subject indexes at the front of each book.
