Former and current government organisations with archives in the Archives Central Digital Repository are known as Agents.
Archives Central manages the archival records for over 340 agents that were amalgamated into District and Regional Councils in 1989. These include early Highway and Road Boards, Harbour Boards, Drainage and River Boards, Rabbit and Pest Destruction Boards, Town Boards, Domain Boards, Catchment Boards, County Councils and current District and Regional Councils.
The area covered by Archives Central includes seven District Councils and two Regional Councils within the Lower & Central North Island.
