Personnel cards containing the name of employee, address, date of birth, dates of employment and rates of pay. Cards cover employees of all departments. They include both salary and wage earners. Arranged in alphabetical order.
This card system was introduced about 1935. Many of the early cards (particularly those of short-term employees) have been destroyed, but the record appears to be complete after about 1950.
The names of some wage earners employed between 1936 and 1957 can be found in the wage sheets in subseries 2/25/1 and 2/25/2 and the income tax returns in 2/25/8.
The names of some of the wage earners employed prior to 1935 can be found in occasional reports in series 1/4 and in some of the accounting records of the trading departments eg. the cash books of 2/26/2 record the bus drivers of the Transit Department.
The names of all salaried staff employed between 1926 and 1946 can be found in the salary books in series 2/25/3.
The names of most salaried staff employed prior to 1926 can be found in the Minute Books in Series 1/1 (most staff were engaged by the resolution of the Council) and also in the reports in series 1/4.
The names of waterworks staff 1932-1936 can be found in the wages and overtime book of the Waterworks Foreman in series 4/25/1.
The names of wage workers in the Engineers’ Department in 1934 can be found in Folder 33 of series 4/3/5. (Box 7). For list of wages staff on 4th September 1918, see series 1/4/3 volume 1, page 271.
