Descriptive Note

Chinese bean sculpture in box. Gifted to Mayor Mark Bell-Booth, Mayor of Palmerston North, by an unknown visiting Chinese delegation circa 2004.

Sculpture depicts a cafe scene with two patrons and a waitress serving food with Chinese lettering on left and right sides. Sculpture is covered by plastic overlaying the top of the bottom portion of the box. Outside of box has Chinese and English lettering, stating, "Chinese Bean Sculpture".

Text on inside of lid in both Chinese and English states, "Brief introduction about Chinese bean sculpture - Chinese bean sculpture is the originator and newest handicraft artical (sic). It compose and model by form and coior (sic) of the bean itself. This works (sic) has substantial content and varried (sic) subject. Full of living interest Which (sic) is the best gift for present relatives and friends (sic)."
