Hydrology - Suspended Sediment

Identifier
HRC 00495
Descriptive Note

Clay, silt, and the finer grades of sand are typically carried as suspended sediment, which tends to dominate the total sediment load in most New Zealand rivers. Suspended sediment measurements are generally undertaken using depth integrated or at point samplers.

Suspended Sediment is usually expressed as mg/litre (mg/l) or tonnes/day. Prior to metrication, units were parts per million (ppm) or tons/day.
